Family Volunteer Process
BPS Virtual Academy values and encourages family involvement as an essential part of learner success. Families are invited to participate in virtual events, feedback opportunities, and optional in-person learning days such as field trips, guest speaker sessions, or project showcases. These opportunities help build connections and support a shared commitment to learning.
To ensure the safety of all learners, all volunteers must complete a district background check before participating in any in-person activities. This can take up to 3 weeks to return back. If you are interested in helping with field trips, events, or classroom support, please contact the Virtual Academy office to learn more. Together, we can create a respectful, welcoming environment to support all learners, online and in person. Below are the processes for being an approved volunteer.
- Review the Volunteer Handbook
- All volunteers must read through the Volunteer Handbook.
- Complete the Required Forms and Background
- Each volunteer must complete and sign page 7-8 and 10 of the handbook and submit to the school secretary.
- BPS Volunteer Agreement Form (page 7-8 and 10)
- Each volunteer must complete and sign page 7-8 and 10 of the handbook and submit to the school secretary.
- Name Clarity
- Volunteers must print legibly and use their full legal name on all forms.
- Example: Use "Melissa" instead of "Missy."
- Illegible handwriting or nicknames make it difficult to process forms correctly.
- Volunteers must print legibly and use their full legal name on all forms.
- Approval Status
- After all forms are approved and background check is returned, you will receive communication from the school secretary about your approval status. If additional background checks or fingerprints are needed, you will be contacted with further directions.
Parental Directive
In accordance with section 15.1-21-08, a student's parent may direct the school district in which the student is enrolled not to administer to the student any state test or state assessment.
- A parental directive is valid only if it is presented to the school district using the standardized form, prepared by the Department of Public Instruction, and signed by the student's custodial parent.
- One form must be completed for each student for each individual assessment. A parental directive is valid only until the conclusion of the school year in which it is received by the school district.
